Goals

Importance
  • Understanding your personal goals helps you balance and realize your professional goals.
Goal Setting

Your goals are both the professional and personal objectives you set out to achieve through the execution of your business. The purpose of the business planning process is to guide you on the path to realizing your goals, and consequently goals for the other stakeholders of your business. If done properly, your personal and professional goals, your business goals, your team's goals, your organization's goals, and your client's goals will all reinforce each other.

It is important to specify your goals in order to ensure they are incorporated into the strategy and design of your business. Your goals may be operational, strategic, innovative, or simply a list of things to do that you never had the time to get to. Once you have these goals identified, you can begin to measure them, establish benchmarks, and move toward tuning and engineering the internal aspects of your business.

Identifying everyone's goals will help balance your business to ensure your success. Each stakeholder has a different interest in your success, and your success will depend on everyone's ability to work together to realize their goals. In the end, everybody's objectives should be incorporated into the architecture of your business plan.
